Rosette – a stylish ceiling and wall decoration

Until recently, the ceiling rosettes were a bit dusty and forgotten by the designers. Fortunately, they have returned to favour and once again conquered the interior design market, giving us great opportunities to create original, distinctive arrangements. Thanks to a variety of different styles, sizes and decorations, we can shape the décor in any way we want, whether it is classic or modern.

Ceiling rosette – what possibilities do we have?

Traditionally understood ceiling stuccowork used to be made of plaster, which perfectly emphasized the classicist style. Nowadays we have a choice of other materials – lighter, but more durable and less demanding in keeping clean. The rosettes are also made of wood, but most often they are plastic – polystyrene, PVC or polyurethane. The ease of manufacturing moulds from these materials also makes it possible to create a great variety of styles.

The most popular rosettes are still the classicist ones – richly decorated, white, usually round. They perfectly break the monotony of the ceiling, giving it exclusivity and class. However, it is worth noticing the slightly more modern designs, which are dominated by smooth rosettes or only delicately decorated ones with thin lines of grooves. The bolder types, on the other hand, take sharper, geometric shapes – not necessarily round and not necessarily symmetrical. They are more predaceous, but also the most eye-catching ones. This form is also quite common for colourful rosettes, found even in very bold shades.

How to choose the right style and size of the rosette?

The most important role of the rosette is to break the boredom and uniformity of the ceiling. However, one should not exaggerate with its decorative feature – it should be adjusted to the décor of the whole room. Richly decorated rosettes work best in simple and modest interiors. If we have a richly ornamented chandelier, intricately decorated furniture and paintings on the walls, and at the same time we do not want our house to resemble a baroque palace, let us choose a smooth rosette. Modern rosettes are also best suited for minimalist interiors. Thanks to their unusual shape, they will make a great-looking decoration and complement the raw interior design, while at the same time not interfering with the dominant style.

Let’s not forget to harmonise the room décor with the size of the rosette. The traditional art of decoration says that the rosette should be about 30% smaller than the chandelier. This rule looks good in classic spaces, but that is not a rule from which there is no exception. In modern interiors and with small lamps you can opt for a very big rosette, occupying a large part of the ceiling. Of course, only on condition that such a decoration is a major part of the room.

Rosettes not only for the ceiling – original wall decorations

We can create an exceptionally decorative interior if we fix the rosette on the wall. Rosettes made of polyurethane or PVC are well suited for this purpose. They are lightweight and all we need is glue to mount them. Thanks to this we can easily model the space and make it more cosy or vice versa – add spaciousness to it. With the help of rosettes, we can easily separate harmonious zones in large rooms and set the central point of the small one.
